Fire Raptor - WIP III....Now With Wings!

I've managed to get a bit more work done on my Fire Raptor. The wings have been added and I'm finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's not been without its tribulations though......

......I'm pretty sure this damned Fire Raptor is possessed by some spiteful little Daemon, it's been a case of one step forward and two steps back. After dropping it twice, rebuilding it and using more of my precious Imperial Purple to repair the damage, I then discovered that the bloody thing wouldn't fit on its flying stand securely! This resulted in me yet again snapping the wings off as I drilled out the slot in the Raptor's hull to make it more secure.....D'oh! I somehow managed to rip one of the window struts off as well, which I only noticed when I photographed it. Fortunately after over an hour looking for it I've managed to find it. Anyhoo here's some piccies just to show that I haven't given up on the damnable thing ;-)

Until next time.....may Our Lady grant you her number ;-)

  1. Flawless in every way mate. What colour are you painting the side cannons bone or purple?

    1. Cheers pal.
I was originally going to paint them Imperial Purple but I'm so low on Imperial Purple paint that I'm toying with idea of bone, especially as it looks to be mainly purple when viewed from above.

  2. I agree bone will look better. I'm sure you will be able to mix paint to get the right purple you need. After all you are a printer mate😉

    1. Imperial Purple is similar to violet or rhodemine red in the pantone range, it can't be matched from standard colours :-(

  3. What you got planned for your sicaran tank? You doing same freehand painted flames or going for same look as all your twisted warped tanks?

  4. The Sicaran will follow the same pattern as the rest of my tanks. Slaanesh knows when I'll get around to it though, this model has really made me yearn to get back to building and painting small models ;-)

  5. So fantastic. The greatest thing about this raptor...if you are ever at a con, I'll instantly recognize your army :)

    1. Thanks Greg.
We (the Cold Steel Mercenaries) discussed hopping over the pond to sample the delights of America, but unfortunately, my disillusionment with 7th edition tournament play has put it hold.....maybe when 8th edition drops ;-)

    2. Give it another few months and I'm sure we'll have 8th at this rate.

  6. Looking good. Keep at it and you'll soon finish and can move on to something more fun. That's what I tell myself when stuck on something; just get it done and then it's on to something more interesting.

I've had many projects like this where it seems every time you sit down to work on it that something goes wrong. You then spend the time you have fixing the mistakes instead of making progress. What can we do but complain about it though?

    1. It's good to have a moan sometimes Thor ;-)
Fortunately the worst of it is over now and with luck I should have this finished next week....ish

  7. Stumbled over this while I was looking for a reference for a Slaaneshi Fire Raptor and I have to say, yours looks truly awesome! Those Daemonette shadows are great!
You achieved a fluent overall look with your colouring and the shadows are the points that directly capture the viewers eye.
