Necromunda Backdrop 2.0 WIP (Part II)

Greetings Hivers!
Over the last month or so work has continued on my Backdrop/vertical gaming board.
The basic structure is almost complete and I can start adding more detail to make it look a little more lived in....

Necromunda Backdrop 2.0 (WIP Part I)

Greetings Hivers!

A couple of years ago (Yikes! It turns out it was five years ago!) I built a backdrop to be used for photographing our gangs and as a small scenery piece for our Black Legacy Campaign (which turned out to be a good 5 years before GW released the Secundas Campaign 😜). We enjoyed using it in our campaign and the idea of creating a much larger version popped into my head and I filed the idea away under the Random Necromunda Ideas™  part of my brain. After extensive searches for a suitable box...one that wouldn't cost a kidney to buy or the need to complete an apprenticeship as a cabinet maker to build...I pretty much gave up on the idea of ever finding one...

The Rise of the Regulators

Greetings Hivers!

With the scene set for our latest adventure in the Underhive, I thought I would share how we set about creating our Regulators and how they will work in our Underhive escapades.

A Tale of Nine Gamers (part 1)

Greetings readers.

The challenge begins to build and paint a Combat Patrol box set for August. Some of the Cold Steel Mercenaries have had their box for a week now and some of us a little less...Poor old Alex didn't receive his until Friday!
Here's a quick update on how we're getting on....

The Rig Wars - The Red Zephyr

Bonny pulled up her face covering, the cloth hiding her grin as she watched the dockers run for shelter.
As soon as the gang plank began to retract the whine of the engines started, kicking up ash and reducing visibility to mere metres. The ship rocked as her landing struts retracted and the anti-grav engines took up the strain.
Her Starboard light cast ethereal shadows across the cavern's walls as she pivoted to the port side, the dust dancing in the green light. The Red Zephyr continued to pivot on the spot, as she drew parallel to the cavern entrance her port side light illuminated the fleeing dust, creating an image like the mouth of hell itself. The illusion was fleeting however, the Landship continued to pivot before its drive thrusters threw more ash into the air and the Red Zephyr left the cavern.
"We'll pay for that the next time we show up." Yelled the Bosun over the screaming engines.
"We have an appointment with the Captain." Replied the first mate "
"And it's one we dare not miss." He thought to himself.

The Rig Wars

Greetings Hivers!
First things first, this post should have been posted up 22 weeks ago. I thought I'd posted them (yes I had written three!) but I've only just realised that they've been sat in my drafts section waiting to be posted, so I've joined them all together to make one post....apologies for that 😳

With the release of the Ash Wastes rule set both Rob and I were eager to explore outside of the Hive. I mentioned to Rob that I had an idea about creating Landships to explore the Deep Wastes and just like that the Rig Wars was born!

Hive Crawler

Greeting Hivers

It's been a while, way too long really but I'm still here enjoying the hobby. Most of my time has been spread across several projects which has meant that I've finished nothing!

As readers who have been here before will know, I have more than enough terrain tiles to build a 6x4 Sector Mechanicus board...notice I didn't use the phrase regular readers there? That's because there has been very little regularity on the blog of late 😉.

Every Model's a Necromunda Model - The Shepherd and his Flock

Legend tells of an oasis deep in the Badzones. A place where the Hive burrows beneath the Ash Waste crust and the only source of light is from the luminescent spores that drift amongst the fungal infested corridors and caverns. The oasis is a safe harbour from the abominations and horrors of the Badlands but it is not without its defences.

Tales of hulking shadows and unseen assailants are told by those foolish enough to try to enter this oasis. They speak of a Shepherd who cares for the inhabitants of this near mythical place and in many Outland settlements free Ogryns speak of a Shepherd that led them out from the Hive.

Amongst the Forges and Fighting pits Ogryns talk of this legend, spreading his name amongst their ranks...although this is usually limited to just three words...Badzone...Shepherd...Freedom.

Civvy Street in the Underhive - Down and Dirty

Greetings Hivers!

I wanted to take a break from painting Zone Mortalis sections of our Underhive and chose to return to the civilians that I built a couple of years ago.

I decided to use the three models that I had built to experiment with some speed painting techniques...here's how they turned out...

Voodoo Dolls updated...and a case to put them in.

Greetings Hivers!

With the release of the Escher House of Blades book, it quickly became apparent that I would need to redesign my gang (as would Rob with his Goliaths). After several play testing sessions to get a reasonable balance between the gangs we both settled on gangs that we thought were interesting and fun to play with and against.

Here's what happened to the Voodoo Dolls...

Civvy Street in the Underhive - Karina Page, the Reporter

Greetings Hivers!

I've been working on some civilians to help populate our corner of the Underhive, affectionately known as Rockridge to those of you new to the Blog. I say 'working on' but I built them around 18 months ago and they've sat around waiting (im)patiently for some paint...blush.

Necromunda Rising

 Greetings Hivers!

Quite a while ago, Rob brought round a box of 'Old Skool' Necromunda bulkheads with hopes that I'd come up with a way to use them....turns out he had 54 of the buggers! After scratching my head for a while, The box was stuffed away in my bits room (yes it really has grown from a bits box to a bits room) to gather dust.

During Lockdown I was thinking of a way to add more variety to our corner of the Underhive and the idea of platforms or risers to vary the ground level popped into my head. I searched online for something suitable to use and, being the useless git that I am when using a computer, found nothing. The idea seemed dead before it had even started! Fortunately, I'm a lot better at finding things in my bits room than I am online. Bulkheads! They would make the ideal risers to vary the height.....

Lightbox Background 2.0

Greetings Hivers!

As I mentioned in my previous post I wasn't entirely happy with the backdrop I created. It looked fine as a stand alone piece and it worked for photographing single models but it distracted the eye too much when photographing full gangs.

Here's the latest version....

Necromunda Backdrop - The Thing In The Tank

Most of the uninitiated population of the Spire are unaware of the existence of aliens such as Aeldari or Orks, let alone the autonomous race of Necrons or the T'au. Those well travelled have heard mention of Ambulls, Sumpkrocs or the giant spiders on the sump seas but to the teeming masses of Hive Primus the existence of alien races is unheard of.
Not so with Fellon Black.
As an Adept of the Divisionis Biologis, Black had heard whispers about strange races and read reports on ancient lost cultures unearthed over the years. But never had he read anything about something so abhorrent as the thing in the tank.
Now staring into those glassy lid-less eyes, he imagined it was looking back. It wasn't of course ... it couldn't. All the stasis locks were closed with both primary and secondary power conductors firmly attached.
Yet the thing in the tank's cold, black, unfathomable eyes burned with a keen intelligence. Even after all these years it excited him. Fellon could feel the hairs on the nape of his neck raise as he stared into those alien eyes. The flicker of a lume globe, a trick of light, his imagination ran wild that it glared at him with anger. He allowed himself a chuckle.
Where it had come from he didn't know, what he did know was that its biological makeup was immeasurably more complex than that of a standard human being. It had taken him to the limits of his intellect and no small measure of time to synthesise a biophage that would not be rejected by the human immune system. The regenerative capability of the thing in the tank's immune system was a revelation, some less scientific minds might even say miraculous or divine: And, he supposed, if not this creature, then what else would be deserving of such adoration?
A faint murmur from below lifted him from his reverie.
For a moment he had forgotten all about the man who lay dying on his gurney.
"You know" he said "I think you might just be the luckiest man alive" as he drew 300ml of thick green liquid into a large syringe "You won't be dying today sir!"

Building a Necromunda Backdrop.

Greetings Underhivers!
For quite a while now I've been thinking about building a small backdrop to make taking photos of our gangs that mush easier. The idea occurred to me a couple of years ago when reading the excellent Blog Gardens of Hectate (a blog that I highly recommend if you like your Grimdark turned up to max!). Ana built a backdrop to show off her many wonderful creations and I filed the idea away to be used at a later date, when/if I ever had the time 😉
I later stumbled across the incredible work of Nicholas Grillet and his display boxes. It immediately dragged Ana's idea of a backdrop to the front of my mind and the idea once again hung around on the edge of my consciousness. Then Mordheim 2019 happened and Nicholas built a magnificent Battlefield in a box (I'm sure you'll agree that this is truly outstanding!). So once again the idea was dragged to the front of my brain, but this time the idea found purchase in the barren soil of my mind....

Hitting the Reset Button

Greetings Sump-Dwellers!
Rob and I have been engrossed in our games of 'Munda for quite a while now and we're both enjoying the history and narrative that our Perpetual campaign is unearthing. Rob's Genestealer Cult is rapidly becoming the terror of Rockridge, but every game is proving to be a tense affair with neither of us sure of who will come out on top until the very end...which is everything you can ask for in my book 😃
However, not all is well in our corner of the Underhive and our Perpetual Campaign is throwing up one or two problems......

Breaking Herald News! Perpetual Campaign Medic.

The Rockridge Herald

Miners dig deep to help Rockridge.

A spokesman for the mining syndicate of Grubbers' Heights has asked the Herald to issue the following statement:

"The Kindred of the Dawn Shadow would like to share their recent good fortune by offering free health care to all inhabitants of Rockridge. At the beginning of each night cycle the Miner's Chirurgeon will open his doors to those in dire need of medical care. The Kindred believe that health and prosperity should be available to all and hope that this service will go some small way to helping the inhabitants of Rockridge achieve that."

The Herald applauds the Kindred of the Dawn Shadow and thanks them for this philanthropic gesture.

Necromunda Terrain Tile 9 - The Mine Shaft

Greetings sinners!
I've been busy working on our terrain just lately. Most of it has been free standing pieces ranging from coolant towers to walkways and scatter terrain. I finally got around to finishing off the old mine works that I started 18 months ago.

Uncovering more of the Underhive

Greetings Sinners!
We've both been busy beavering away on an assortment of projects for our corner of the Underhive and I thought I'd share the latest piece to be uncovered in Rockridge's expansion.

The Voodoo Dolls of House Escher

Like most of House Escher's gangs, the Voodoo Dolls had a reputation as ostentatious, psychotic killers. Typically still, they specialised in a wide range of exotic pharmaceuticals, from gene-hancing elixirs to luxury designer drugs. Despite being well known as a supplier of Ghast, there is another relatively unknown drug that the Voodoo Dolls specialised in, a drug that would see the Voodoo Dolls rise from the Sump Swamps to reach dizzying heights within Hive Primus but ultimately one which would lead to their downfall.....Zombie.
