Necromunda Backdrop 2.0 WIP (Part II)

Greetings Hivers!
Over the last month or so work has continued on my Backdrop/vertical gaming board.
The basic structure is almost complete and I can start adding more detail to make it look a little more lived in....

WR-41-TH and Howling Mad Mave of the Regulators

 Greetings Hivers!
I've finally finished painting up WR-41-TH for our 'Rise of the Regulators' campaign.

He's a little rough 'n' ready...

...but there are too many projects and not enough time 😉

Hopefully he'll survive long enough to be able to afford his Plasma Gun!

I've also added a bit of detail to Howling Mad Mave, who's proving to be a great asset to the Regulators with her rapid movement and trusty Chainsword.

That's it for now. I'm busy typing our latest instalment of our Rise of the Regulators adventure which will be a two-part report simply because Zone Mortalis bat reps are a bit of a bugger to type out and make sense of. Hopefully that will be posted tomorrow.

Until next time....May the Hive Spirits watch over you 😉

Hive Crawler

Greeting Hivers

It's been a while, way too long really but I'm still here enjoying the hobby. Most of my time has been spread across several projects which has meant that I've finished nothing!

As readers who have been here before will know, I have more than enough terrain tiles to build a 6x4 Sector Mechanicus board...notice I didn't use the phrase regular readers there? That's because there has been very little regularity on the blog of late 😉.

Every Model's a Necromunda Model - The Shepherd and his Flock

Legend tells of an oasis deep in the Badzones. A place where the Hive burrows beneath the Ash Waste crust and the only source of light is from the luminescent spores that drift amongst the fungal infested corridors and caverns. The oasis is a safe harbour from the abominations and horrors of the Badlands but it is not without its defences.

Tales of hulking shadows and unseen assailants are told by those foolish enough to try to enter this oasis. They speak of a Shepherd who cares for the inhabitants of this near mythical place and in many Outland settlements free Ogryns speak of a Shepherd that led them out from the Hive.

Amongst the Forges and Fighting pits Ogryns talk of this legend, spreading his name amongst their ranks...although this is usually limited to just three words...Badzone...Shepherd...Freedom.

Civvy Street in the Underhive - Down and Dirty

Greetings Hivers!

I wanted to take a break from painting Zone Mortalis sections of our Underhive and chose to return to the civilians that I built a couple of years ago.

I decided to use the three models that I had built to experiment with some speed painting techniques...here's how they turned out...

Necromunda Terrain Tile 10 - Darkmaw

Greetings Hivers!
It's been quite a while since my last post so I thought I'd get my lazy arse in gear and share my latest terrain tile with you.

Voodoo Dolls updated...and a case to put them in.

Greetings Hivers!

With the release of the Escher House of Blades book, it quickly became apparent that I would need to redesign my gang (as would Rob with his Goliaths). After several play testing sessions to get a reasonable balance between the gangs we both settled on gangs that we thought were interesting and fun to play with and against.

Here's what happened to the Voodoo Dolls...

Civvy Street in the Underhive - Karina Page, the Reporter

Greetings Hivers!

I've been working on some civilians to help populate our corner of the Underhive, affectionately known as Rockridge to those of you new to the Blog. I say 'working on' but I built them around 18 months ago and they've sat around waiting (im)patiently for some paint...blush.

Lightbox Background 2.0

Greetings Hivers!

As I mentioned in my previous post I wasn't entirely happy with the backdrop I created. It looked fine as a stand alone piece and it worked for photographing single models but it distracted the eye too much when photographing full gangs.

Here's the latest version....

The Marionettes 2.0 (part 4) - RH-03-TUS

Greetings Hivers!
I finally managed to lift myself from my Lockdown ennui and finish the last champion for my Renegade Ad-Mech gang, the Marionettes.
Eighteen months ago (yes it's been that long....blush) this was how the champion looked. He was a bit of a rush job at the time because I was trying to get him finished quickly for Rory's annual Squaduary challenge. Of course me being me, I was soon distracted by something else and I missed the deadline a bit 😉.
As luck would have it GW released a couple of Necromunda supplements that added a few more weapons to the game. One of the these was the Arc Rifle (can't get more Ad-Mech than that!) so I ripped off the Plasma gun to give him a more fitting weapon.
I liked the idea of a champion skittering about on slender limbs giving him a sort of spider/centaur feel  but the model looked a little too static, so I decided to add more movement to his legs. Basically I ripped him apart and rebuilt him and here is what I ended up with.....

The Marionettes 2.0 (Part 3) Resurrection.

Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, Zenith rose to his feet, casually patting himself down to extinguish the flames that had engulfed him.
"Is that all you have tin man? I had worse burns on my first day in the forge." Mocked the Goliath.
The Princeps activated his power axe by way of reply.
"That's a real pretty axe you have there, think I'll keep it for myself and sell the rest of you for scrap tin man."
Zenith raised his bolter and fired two shots at the Mech Champion.
The first round tore into the Princeps' arm and his power axe dropped listlessly by his side, the second blew chunks from the coolant tank as the Mech Champion dived for cover.

Zenith leapt over the pipe work to follow up his attack.
"You're quick tin man, I'll give you that. Now let's see if you can fight as well as you move."
The Princeps emitted a burst of binary static as the Goliath closed the distance.
"Squeal all you want tin man, there's no one else here. So if you want to beg for your life, you better make it in Gothic."

"Time to die tin man." said Zenith with a grin.
As the Goliath carefully took aim once more with his boltgun, the Princeps' Grapplehawk dropped silently from the overhead pipework.

As one, the Grapplehawk and Mech Champion struck. The Princeps sliced through Zenith's wrist with his power axe and the Goliath's bolter fell to the floor, his hand still twitching upon its grip. At the same time the Grapplehawk clamped on to Zenith's left arm, it's fangs biting deep, severing his nerves and several of his fingers.
"I will not yield tin man!" Screamed Zenith into the Mech Champions face as the Princeps plunged his Shock Stave into the Goliath rending him unconscious.

Zenith awoke strapped to a gurney. Before him floated a Medicae unit, the likes of which he could never imagine in his wildest nightmare.
"I'll tell you nothing tin man" spat Zenith. "I am born of the Forge and you will not break me!"
Another burst of binary static, no doubt aimed at the Medicae unit, before the Mech Champion turned to face the Goliath.
In broken Low Gothic the Princeps addressed the Goliath for the first time.
"Break you? we're not here to break you Goliath. We're here to fix you."
Zenith began to scream......

The Marionettes 2.0 (part 2) 7 of 9

Greetings Hivers!
Work is progressing (at a tediously slow pace thanks to being classed as a key worker) with my Renegade Mech Venator band, the Marionettes.

The Muties are coming!

Greetings Hivers!
I've hit a bit of a wall with my Marionettes at the moment (a Trigeminal Neuralgia built wall, that means I'd rather smash my head through a wall than hold a paint brush), fortunately our good friend Rob is banging out the miniatures.
These Muties were knocked out in incredibly quick time and as much as I love him, I hate him in equal measure for being able to paint so quickly 😉

They're still work in progress, but I simply had to show them off...and getting Rob to post on the blog is almost as big a pain as my Neuralgia is....

The Town Crier is my favourite, but really I think they're all great and will look great alongside the Coarsemen in our up and coming adventure.

Until next time....may the Hive Spirits watch over you 😉

The Marionettes 2.0 (part 1)

Greetings Hivers!
Now that the Coarsemen have been painted and with Rory's excellent Squaduary recently finished, I thought it was high time I finished my Renegade Mechanicus gang.
Some of you may remember that I pledged them for last year's Squaduary and although I got them base coated in time, the camera on my phone packed up and they never saw the light of day. This proved to be a blessing in disguise because I had rushed some of them and I wasn't happy with all of the poses but mainly because we have been play testing them to make sure they aren't over/underpowered and the weapon load outs have changed a bit.
So this will be a small series of posts detailing the very belated progress of my gang, the Marionettes.

Cereberax - Coarseman of Rockridge.

"As unnerving as it is to lay eyes on him, it's his incessant talking that disturbed me the most.
Endlessly whispering, muttering and arguing with himself, it's enough to drive a fella mad.
But you better pray to the emperor himself that his endless chatter doesn't stop.
'Cause that's when his Stubber starts talking."

Potamus - Coarseman of Rockridge

The Sump Swamp of Rockridge is a dank and dangerous place.
Dripping girders rise from its depths, their surface etched with the acidic slime trails of Sump Slugs. Strung between them lie the intricate webs of the lesser sump spider, its diminutive size more than compensated by a venom powerful enough to fell an Ogryn.
Flitting between pockets of Grappleweed, Stranglevine and Venomgorse, the heavy, stagnant air is filled with the sounds of buzzing Skeetas, some as large as a Goliath's head with a sting as keen as any stiletto blade,
Across its surface slither sump snakes large enough to swallow a man whole and leeches as long as a man's arm, their glossy black bodies bloated with blood. Where the toxicity of the sump swamp is too high even for these creatures, Sludge Jellies drift, waiting patiently to envelope and consume the unwary.
Beneath the murky surface, algae and rotting bio-matter keep everything from view, both dangerous and benign. A sudden burst of air bubbles could be a submerged girder settling or the rancid breath of a Sumpkrok on the hunt.
Despite these dangers, or maybe because of them, the Voodoo Dolls of House Escher call the Sump Swamp their home. But there is one creature that is so vile and dangerous that even the Voodoo Dolls fear it....Potamus, Coarseman of Rockridge!

Sirenmaw 'the Butcher' - Coarseman of Rockridge

"I crept along the Corridor, the darkness beckoned to explore.
Whispers echoed far and near, when suddenly I'm gripped by fear.
The scrape of metal on the floor, the sound of footfalls as before.
Portent's warning I ignore, and raise my lamp to see some more.
Butcher, cleaver, more I saw, His name he screamed was Sirenmaw!"

"Booma" Rhinox, Coarseman of Rockridge.

The constantly recycled air, water and food have an inevitable effect on the inhabitants of Necromunda. Pollutants and toxins build up in the bio-system causing genetic instability and mutation, and the effects of these are worse further down the Hive where the toxins are more concentrated. Because mutation is so common, minor deformities are tolerated to a degree, even Uphive.
Underhivers are more tolerant of mutants than other Necromundans. So long as mutants keep a low profile and are not obviously or grossly deformed, they can live peaceably even inside a large settlement, and for those too mutated to live in a big settlement, the lawless expanse of the hive bottom  provides ample opportunity to hide.
Deviants, Muties and Scalies are just some of the many names for the mutant, and such names are often spoken aloud by the inhabitants of Rockridge. However, there is one name that is only whispered for fear of invoking their wrath....the Coarsemen!

Danh Bokor - Voodoo Dolls Rogue (Witch) Doc

The Sump Swamp of Stranglevine Creek is a dank and dangerous place. Grapple Weed, Barbed Venomgorse and Shardwrack Spines thrive in the swamp's fetid environment, deterring all but the most fool hardy or desperate. Even the most experienced of locals occasionally fall prey to the sump-snakes, sludge-jellies and the myriad other fauna of Stranglevine Creek. Those who venture deeper into the sump swamp face the greatest risk of all, the Voodoo Dolls of House Escher.
Despite this, one man moves freely throughout the region, impervious to the dangers that Stranglevine Creek holds....Danh Bokor.

House Escher Ambot

Rumours that the Voodoo Dolls have taken delivery of a Luther Pattern Excavation Automata were confirmed recently when excavation work started on the border of Stranglevine Creek and Grubbers' Heights. Locals reported seeing an Ambot at all three excavation sites along the border, the Herald has discovered that the three sites are named Tom , Dick and Harry. Just what the Voodoo Dolls are digging for remains a mystery and the gang was unavailable to comment.
