Necromunda Terrain Tile 9 - The Mine Shaft

Greetings sinners!
I've been busy working on our terrain just lately. Most of it has been free standing pieces ranging from coolant towers to walkways and scatter terrain. I finally got around to finishing off the old mine works that I started 18 months ago.

The structure was made from Mantic's Deadzone terrain. At the time of release it was relatively cheap as Rob bought it as part of a kickstarter deal but I believe it isn't quite the bargain that it originally was. It goes together pretty quickly and has proven to be a great asset for our early games of Necromunda.

Since Mantic's initial release, GW have really stepped up their terrain game. Sector Mechanicus and the new style of ruins have pretty much blown away Mantic's terrain but I like the idea of the Underhive having an eclectic mix of terrain and I feel that this adds to the ancient archeotech feel that 'Munda is all about.

Of course, being a mine shaft, it had to have an old mining cart to dispose of all that rubble the locals would sift through. I'm not too sure why I originally had this piece but I do remember it was made by a company called Ainsty Castings and as I was building the structure I knew I had it lying around in a bits box somewhere.....never throw anything away πŸ˜‰

The rails lead inside the structure to a lift that descends to the depths below. Only the miners of the Kindred of the Dawn Shadow know just how far the shaft goes but rumours abound about what lurks beneath Rockridge. Where ever the shaft leads to, it has certainly proven to be lucrative for the Kindred, judging by the recently acquired Dozer unit that they have purchased.

Until next time.....May Our Lady grant you her number πŸ˜‰

  1. Rockridge, Rockridge! Wonder of Necromunda! Too deep they delved there, and woke the nameless fear!

It would actually be kind of hilarious if they found something like a Trygon that had gone feral and ended up eating a bunch of the Hybrids instead of joining with them. Or, more fitting to the Balrog imagery, if less suited to poetic justice, a Bloodthirster.*

Regardless of what lurks beneath, that's a pretty cool looking shafthouse, and yeah, the mix of different styles of Terrain suits the Underhive perfectly.

*OK, yeah, make that the Red Terror and a Herald of Khorne if you want something that won't just flat out end your campaign ;)

    Brilliant!
Thanks Alexis. The terrain tiles have so many story hooks built into them that it's hard to know what will happen in the future......but being that Rob and I are both disciples of the Dark Gods, I'm sure that it won't be too long before Chaos casts a shadow upon the fair district of Rockridge ;)

Very beautifull! Before I read about the origin, I thought it was made from computer parts ... Then if the faithful servants of the 4 brothers were to reappear in darkness, so be itπŸ˜‰

    1. Cheers Marco.
We have both intentionally steered away from Chaos because we wanted to explore Necromunda's more 'mundane' environment (if such a thing as 'roided-up behemoths, Amazonian psychopaths, alien infected mutants and bomb rats could be considered mundane!) and because we have both played Chaos for more years than we care to remember.
Of course, that almost prurient like interest in Chaos is still there, it just might take a more subtle form than in the past...or then again, it might not be so subtle....who knows? ;)

  5. The terrain you have really helps your games come to life, I'd say.

    1. It does. We often stop mid game to take in the view πŸ˜‰.
We're both pretty pleased with how our corner of the Underhive is turning out 😁

  6. This peice was one of the first encountered on the decent into the lightless depths, and now its mounted on a tile and finished just looks fantastic! So long ago now, the underhive just keeps on evolving as more domes are discovered. Nice work mate.
