Necromunda Terrain Tile 3 - The Little Sister

Greetings Sinners!

40k has taken something of a backseat for me just lately, but I'm still busy beavering away on my terrain tiles and I thought I'd share my latest tile with you good people.
I'm still enjoying the hobby side of things thanks to the new Necromunda/Shadow Wars. Both games have really captured my imagination and appeal to my narrative nature much more than 8th edition has. Naturally, this has led to even more procrastination as I juggle between learning new rules, building and painting terrain tiles, working on my Escher gang (the Voodoo Dolls) and immersing myself in the many cool blogs that lean towards the narrative aspects of the hobby rather than the competitive side of things.....

.......With all this going on, it's hardly surprising that I've been neglecting my blog of late.
In an attempt to bring some order to my chaos, I've decided to focus on my terrain tiles and get them finished. Once they're finished, I'm hopeful, this will tempt Rob from his hibernation and it might just lure Neil away from the dark side and his competitive 40k gaming (your thoughts betray you Neil, I feel the conflict within you).
Of course, things are never that simple with me. The problem with terrain is that I start looking around for inspiration and stumble across blogs that are so inspiring that I lose 3 or 4 hours reading other peoples blogs and the next thing I know, it's too late in the day to get around to do anything constructive.....I really should do a post on the blogs that I find inspiring, there are some incredible blogs out there!

With that in mind, I'm going to try and cut back on my blog reading and concentrate on the four tiles I've come to know as the four sisters.....so called because of the rock formation that dominates each tile. This tile isn't as high as the other two, hence the moniker 'little sister' and has a few technological bits and pieces added to it.....

.........These four tiles will represent the 'Old Town' part of the settlement where the locals dwell and supplies can be obtained for a fee.

I'm really enjoying building and painting these. I'm trying to include enough details within each tile to act as a story hook for any game I play on them but not so much that they detract from the models that will fight over them. Because of this I'm using a very limited or muted paint scheme so that they they don't come across as too showy. I'm still waiting for some weathering powders to arrive and once they do all of the tiles will be toned down further to add to the grunge look and tie all of the tiles together.

Here's three of the four sisters waiting for weathering powders.

Work is underway on the fourth and here's a few WIP piccies to whet the appetite....

This will be my STC class Medi Unit......

......known as Sawbone Sali's

For supplies head on over to Guns and Banjos

If they don't have it......

.......They can get it.

and the fourth sister is well under way.....

Until next time......may Our Lady grant you her number.....

  1. Excellent use of the Munitorum Containers! Looks like that's gonna be a great set of boards to play on

    1. Cheers buddy.
The Munitorum Containers are incredibly versatile. They make great tunnel entrances, corridors, buildings and general line of sight blockers.....I don't think I'll ever use the Bolters that come with them though ;-)

    2. I was actually thinking about using them to make a set of Zone Mortalis boards when they first came out, but then I ran the math and found it would actually be cheaper to just buy the FW boards.

Truth on the Bolters, tho. I've got a growing bag full of those Storm Bolter parts. The only thing I can really think of is that Pintle Storm Bolters/Combi-Bolters are such a good buy for most Vehicles that I may eventually need them for those.

    3. Haha, I was thinking exactly the same thing myself and once I realised how much it would cost I thought perhaps not.
While messing around with ideas for Zone Mortalis and how much work would be involved to build anything similar I quickly came to the conclusion that Forge World's Zone Mortalis tiles are reasonably priced (it's just a shame that the postage costs are so extortionate ;-)

  2. Good looking terrain will really help any necromunda campaign out a lot. Bravo.
Would love to see you back to 40k, competitive or narrative.

    1. Thanks Rory.
I'm not finished with 40k, it's just tournament sized games that have drained me. Hopefully once I get these terrain tiles finished I can get Rob into smaller games of 40k such as Path to Glory or failing that I can rope Neil into giving it a try.
Of course, it doesn't help when a certain blog is luring me into painting my Escher gang ;-)

  3. That is some fantastic terrain you've got going on! Looking forward to seeing it all come together.

  4. Thanks Michael.
The main issue I have with it at the moment is trying not to cram too much onto each tile...Aesthetics v Playability.
The main purpose of these tiles will be for skirmish level games, but the Four Sisters should make for good line of sight blocking terrain in 40k games.

  5. Really nice work (as always) Gary, love the contrast of Old West style alongside Necro Tech.
I can certainly relate to your Blog diversions as there really is so much good stuff out there but I'd certainly appreciate if you did a short(it article) about your Blog recommendations.

    1. Cheers Rob. I like the feel of the wood against the metal and rock....even though wood is a very scarce resource on Necromunda. Obviously my part of the Hive has an abundance of it or maybe my Hive is on a Death World instead of Necromunda.

I'll see what I can do about posting up a short article on the blogs I find inspiring ;-)
