The Rise of the Regulators - Death at Tumbledown Rise

"We're all clear on what we need to do then? Asked the Escher leader.

"We get the Dredger into the Sump and cover him while he searches the depths." Intoned the rest of the Regulators drearily.

Brigitte nodded adding "Once he's completed his survey we haul him out and get back to Sanctuary. Now gear up and let's move out."

Howling Mad Mave donned her Hazard Suit before WR-41-TH helped her into her Jump Booster.

"Hey Ludwig! How come ya don't bother with any armour? Inquired the Orlock Prospect.

"Because he's a fool" mumbled Oberon.

"I walk in His divine shadow...Something the Witch would know nothing of!" replied the Redemptionist glaring at the Psy-Gheist. "I could walk naked through a hail of fire with only my faith to protect me and emerge untouched."

"Think I'll stick with me Hazard Suit, if that's ok with you? Grinned Mave.

"His will is known to me!" Continued Ludwig. "He has spoken to me... He said I would be shown my destiny...by a painted woman." His words echoed off of the walls, seeming to come from everywhere at once.

'He's quite the sense of theatre.' Thought Brigitte 'I suppose all Redemptionists do.'

"He told me the time, and the place, and the manner of my death. He whispered it, and made me swear to keep it a secret. So I cannot tell you where it will be, but it is not here, and it is not now."

"Well this painted woman says enough with the sermon and let's get our arses to Tumbledown Rise and find out what these components are for!" interrupted Brigitte...

The tunnels the Regulators used to avoid prying eyes brought them up in the South of Tumbledown Rise. Brigitte ground her teeth at the desolation wrought and the loss of the Voodoo Dolls' old territory to the authorities.

WR-41-TH spotted an Enforcer dawdling close to Ludwig and the Dredger. The Specialist activated his newly acquired Plasma Gun and took him down with typical Ad-Mech efficiency.
Ludwig edged out of cover, fervently scanning the area for threats.
The Redemptionist spotted an Enforcer amongst the sunken ruins and launched a Frag Grenade in his direction. The grenade overshot its target and fell into the Sump, the muffled explosion distracted the Enforcer's attention away Ludwig's location.
Howling Mad Mave activated her Jump Booster and leapt towards the troublesome Enforcer, landing on the other side of the sunken ruins.
The Enforcer must have heard her approach. The 'lawman' moved through the ruins and emptied his Bolter into the Orlock Prospect. Three Bolter rounds slammed into Mave. Two of them ricocheted off of her Jump Booster but the third tore through her skull taking her Out of Action with an Eye Injury.
WR-41-TH moved out of cover to exact revenge for the Orlock Prospect. Plasma burned through the Enforcer's armour Seriously Injuring to the patrolman.
Brigitte climbed the cooling tower and levelled her Bolter at the Enforcer sniper standing on the roof of her old gang's hideout. Three rapid fire shots rang out and the lifeless body of the sniper plummeted to the floor.
Oberon guided the Dredger into the East section of the Sump. As the Psy-Gheist took the opportunity to rifle through the pockets of the dead Enforcer for some easy creds, the diver plunged into the Sump, safe from the prying eyes of the Enforcers.
Grimacing like he had caught a bad smell, Ludwig moved away from the Psy-Gheist to seek better company.
The Redemptionist spotted the Enforcer Captain patrolling the Sump Swamp and loaded a Krak Grenade. "I am His will made manifest!" screamed Ludwig in ecstasy as the Grenade slammed into the 'lawman' taking him out of action.
His euphoria was short lived however. An Enforcer moved out from the shadows and blasted the Redemptionist with his Shotgun. With no armour the solid shot tore into Ludwig shredding his robes and most of his flesh.
As the Redemptionist fell, Oberon waded through the Sump and enveloped the Enforcer in sticky filament threads from his Web Pistol. The patrolman slowly sank into the sump as he thrashed against the enveloping web and was dragged down into the murky depths.
Oberon moved over to the Redemptionist. The Psy-Gheist looked dispassionately at the gaping wound in Ludwig's chest. "Not quite the destiny your Emperor promised, eh?...Or the Memorable Death you were hoping for?" Taunted Oberon.
Ludwig tried to speak but nothing but blood bubbled from his mouth.
"Turns out your Emperor is full of shit." He sneered as he lifted his foot rolling him into the Sump to sink without a trace.
With two of the Regulators down they finally failed their Bottle Check and so each Regulator had to take a Nerve test or flee the battle.
The sound of gunfire echoing throughout the district drew the attention of unwanted guests. A band of Mutants charged in amongst the Enforcers. One of the Mutants launched himself into the Enforcer's Sanctioner Pattern Automata but its feeble attempts to disable it resulted in only his swift demise.
The Sanctioner charged into another mutant and deftly tore it apart.
Brigitte passed her Cool Check and because she was close she calmed the rest of the Regulators.
As Oberon guided the Dredger into the central part of the Sump he caught the eye of the rampant Sanctioner. The Automata charged in but the Psy-Gheist proved much more agile than the Mutants and he failed to hit him.
Brigitte cast her calming influence again to keep everybody in the fight.
WR-41-TH spotted that the Delaque Wyrd was in trouble and charged his Plasma Gun to maximum. The shot hit home but it failed to penetrate the Sanctioner's armour
Oberon made the most of the distraction and jumped out of combat spraying the Automata with adhesive filaments from his Web Pistol. The Sanctioner thrashed against the contracting threads, servos over compensating, it stumbled and crashed down into the depths Out of Action.
The Dredger moved into the South section of the Sump to continue his survey.
Once again Brigitte calmed the Regulators' nerves. The Escher leader and WR-41-TH gunned down the remaining Mutants as the Dredger began his survey of the Sump bottom in the East section.
Brigitte passed her cool check once again and spread her calming influence to the rest of her crew.
An Enforcer blocked the path to the North Sump section. WR-41-TH attempted to gun him down but the shot flew wide.
The Enforcer charged into WR-41-TH to subdue the Ad-Mech specialist with his Magnacles.
Brigitte charged in to help out WR-41-TH and took the Enforcer Out of Action with her Stiletto Sword.
The Dredger scoured the Northern Sump to complete the full survey of the Sump swamps of Tumbledown Rise. The Regulators had successfully completed their mission...but it had come at a terrible cost.

Well that was something of a Pyrrhic victory!

The Regulators are down to five members and there are still a few games to go....hopefully.

Maman Brigitte
The Escher Leader managed two kills in this game but her biggest achievement was keeping the Regulators in the fight. After the loss of Howling Mad Mave and then the death of Ludwig it was only a matter of time before we failed our Morale Check and Brigitte went on to pass around 5 or 6 Cool checks to stop everybody from fleeing the battle.

WR-41-TH
The Ad-Mech Specialist also managed two kills this game and proved to be much more formidable with his Plasma Gun.

Howling Mad Mave
The Orlock Wrecker lasted one round! She was a bit unlucky though. She was all set to charge an Enforcer the next round and her target randomly rolled for movement to move right in front her. Not only did he take her Out of Action but she rolled an Eye Injury reducing her ballistic skill by 1. The very same stat that she had spent her Experience on trying to improve it! ๐Ÿ˜„

Oberon
The Delaque Psy-Ghiest proved to be much more effective with a Web Pistol. He took down two Enforcers, one of which was a Sanctioner Pattern Automata! He also looted a body for 4 creds ๐Ÿ˜€

Ludwig
The Redemptionist was getting stuck in with his usual aplomb taking out the Enforcer Captain and being a general nuisance to the authorities but it all went horribly wrong. We were both shocked when his Injury roll came up 66...Memorable Death!
His character was really starting to develop  from our games and it's a shame that it has been brought to an end...But hey that's Necromunda for you ๐Ÿ˜
Rob has been thinking of doing a crusading all Redemptionist gang separate from his Cawdor gang and the Apocrypha Necromunda book does have Resurrection rules to bring back dead leaders, so it wouldn't surprise me if Ludwig returns sometime in the distant future ๐Ÿ˜‰

"So this is what Ludwig gave his life for?" scowled Grimy. "A bunch of blurry pictures that could be anything?" The Goliath Bully continued bitterly.
"Whatever it is, it was worth the effort of driving the locals out and deploying guards to keep them away." Replied Brigitte.
"Give me a moment and I'll clear the images up" interrupted Oberon "I have some experience in uncovering that which would prefer to remain hidden." added the Delaque with a sly smile.
"There...that's the best I can do with our limited resources." He finished, throwing the Vid-Picts onto the table.
All of them fell silent as they studied them and tried to weigh up the implications.

'Damn...That doesn't look good'. Thought Brigitte.

Until next time...May the Hive Spirits watch over you! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. Alas poor Ludwig! I knew his yell.
A sad day for all the faithful. But of course as he said this is not the day! He shall arise and take a new name...
The lazcannon detonator is genius my friend๐Ÿ‘Œ

    1. Fortunately, the Regulators have never been a particularly faithful bunch.
An Escher that follows the Hive Spirits, an Ad-Mech that thinks the priests of Mars are wrong, a Goliath that believes that might is right and a Wyrd that preys to who knows what? Hardy the most faithful of crews ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜†

    1. Gracias Suber ๐Ÿ˜
I think it might be a struggle for the Regulators now. Our next mission will only have four of our intrepid misfits available and their task isn't getting any easier ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
